Hanns-Josef Ortheil: By every trick in the book - reading and discussion with Kevin Kuhn
Wednesday, 19/03/2025 / 07:30 PM / House of Literature Freiburg
For over 30 years, he has taught with great emphasis what for a long time seemed unteachable: literary writing. In "Nach allen Regeln der Kunst" (Insel, 2024), Hanns-Josef Ortheil, author and long-time professor at the University of Hildesheim, outlines a panorama of his unconventional and contemporary teaching.
Taking the infamous blank page as his starting point, he invites readers on a wide-ranging journey through the lands of storytelling by means of inspiring writing tasks. Other arts such as music, painting, photography and film are always part of the literary design and planning process. Hanns-Josef Ortheil's oeuvre now comprises more than seventy published books. Kevin Kuhn, a former student of Ortheil's who is researching the aesthetics of novel design after the two novels "Hikikomori" and "Liv", will be talking to him.
