Gabriel Fauré Requiem

Book tickets

Cantique de Jean Racine | Messe basse

"It is meek like myself, dominated by human trust in eternity." Gabriel Fauré's Requiem stands out from many other settings with its positive, comforting mood. He dispenses with the musical depiction of the horrors of death, instead emphasizing redemption and entry into the kingdom of heaven.
The Freiburger Kantorei performs the work in the version for cello, harp and organ, based on the first small version of the work. Fauré later created two further versions, in which the orchestration grew to a large symphony orchestra.
A Parisian vicar famously made the provocative statement that Fauré's Requiem was "unnecessary" because there was already enough musical literature. We do not want to do without Fauré's touching music.
