Program

Improvisation? Many people immediately think of jazz. But long before that, musicians such as Franz Liszt, Ludwig van Beethoven and Frédéric Chopin were also masters of improvisation. On May 23, 2025, Laurens Patzlaff, Professor of Improvisation and Applied Piano Playing at the College of Music Freiburg, will give his inaugural concert. He will take his audience on a journey through the diversity of free playing: from baroque, romantic and jazz to new music and sometimes inspired by poetry or a silent movie. The audience can help decide exactly what he plays by writing down their musical wishes before the concert. The result will only be performed once and only on this evening!
