International organ concerts in Freiburg Minster

The International Organ Concerts in Freiburg Minster have been an integral part of Freiburg's summer cultural life for many decades. The unique organ system - consisting of 4 individual instruments that can be played together - in the wonderful space of the Minster attracts outstanding international performers and organ enthusiasts from all over the world.

The symbiosis of space and sound inspires and fascinates - very special sound experiences and thrilling concert experiences can be experienced.

In addition to the established organ repertoire, the year 2024 is particularly dedicated to the work of Anton Bruckner, who was born 200 years ago - many of the programs revolve around this master's extraordinary oeuvre.

Anton Bruckner's name is inextricably linked with the organ - the enormous power of sound and extreme delicacy, aspects that an organ is capable of expressing, seem to have inspired Bruckner: according to contemporary accounts, his playing must have had an incredible effect, especially in his improvisations.
Bruckner was a lifelong organist: the organ was probably the nucleus of all his symphonic works.

This year, two complete symphonies transcribed for organ, as well as a series of individual works and improvisations on themes from the oeuvre of the "Musician of God" will be performed in Freiburg Cathedral. (c)Fribourg Cathedral Foundation
