Breaking news: Sahra Wagenknecht has been abducted by aliens. Her husband Oskar commissions detective Emma Erdling with the search, which soon turns out to be a journey into German intellectual history and her unconscious, an odyssey to light and dark forces. Fueled by linguistic lightness and subtle humor, "Erdling" (Suhrkamp, 2023) takes us through space and time all the way into outer space.

"A grandiose epistemic world design in novel form that shows us that not everything has to remain as dreary and bleak as it is," writes sociologist Carolin Amlinger in the FAZ. In her study "Gekränkte Freiheit" (Suhrkamp, 2022, with Oliver Nachtwey), she recently explored the question of why liberal, enlightened people are increasingly developing authoritarian resentments. In the days following the European elections, she talks to Emma Braslavsky about politics, freedom and fiction, moderated by Karl-Heinz Ott.
