Kantorei of the Collegiate Church of Herrenberg. Oratorio by Joseph Haydn "In the beginning God created heaven and earth. From the chaos at the beginning of the creation of the world to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Joseph Haydn spans the arc in his oratorio The Creation .
Inspired, among other things, by Handel's oratorios, which he had heard in England, and by John Milton's Paradise Lost , Haydn composed the work between 1796 and 1798 as the third of his four oratorios. With a cast including orchestra, chorus, and three soloists who assume the roles of three archangels and Adam and Eve, Haydn illustrates the events with inventive tone painting. The ends of several days of creation are celebrated in magnificent choral passages.
Even the premiere in 1798 became a great success, and to this day The Creation is a much-performed part of the classical repertoire worldwide.
The Martinschor Freiburg will perform The Creation on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, at 7 p.m. in St. Martin on Freiburg's Rathausplatz. The version by Joe Hickmann will be heard, played by an orchestra with historical instruments. As vocal soloists Susanne Falk, the conductor of the Martin Choir, was again able to win outstanding voices: Fanie Antonelou (soprano), Florian Cramer (tenor) and Ekkehard Abele (bass).
