Mozart and dances of the East: "A different take on The Abduction from the Seraglio"

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous opera "The Abduction from the Seraglio" without singing and stage design, reduced to the music? It works and was even done in Mozart's time: musicians played a kind of "best-of" in market squares and taverns to inspire the audience. On June 17, 2024 at 7 p.m., students from the wind classes at the College of Music Freiburg will perform an abridged version of the "Abduction from the Seraglio" (transcription: Franz Joseph Rosinack). They will play the most beautiful arias from it in a version for eight wind instruments plus double bass, each with two horns, clarinets, oboes and bassoons. Dances from the Near and Far East are performed as a link between the arias, from the dance of the Janissaries to the Romanian bear dance. They were written by Swiss composer Willi März, who will be present at the concert. "The Abduction from the Seraglio with a difference" promises to be an entertaining, exciting and enjoyable concert evening.
