Beate has recently been happily married to Martin, a dyed-in-the-wool mother's son. Unlike Martin, who reads his beloved mother's every wish from her eyes, Beate has had no contact with her mother Erika for years because she has become a "man-eating power woman in her third spring". For Martin, this is a situation that needs to end. He wants to mediate between mother and daughter at a jointly arranged dinner. But as the fateful evening approaches, nothing goes according to plan. Martin moves out of the apartment they share before Erika arrives after a marital row. Now good advice is at a premium: where can Beate find a husband to present to her mother? It's a good thing that Harald, a passionate vacuum cleaner salesman, is in the house at the time and agrees to stand in as a double. But then Martin turns up looking remorseful and the chaos takes its course.
