Come And Dance - Choral music by Brahms, Ligeti, Elgar, Bartók

Book tickets

After the great success of Johannes Brahms' Liebesliederwalzer op. 52, which were intended to be performed at home and in social gatherings, he followed up with his Neue Liebesliederwalzer op. 65 for vocal quartet and piano four hands. Although they are performed less frequently in concert, they are no less interesting and famous. Under the title COME AND DANCE, the Freiburg Oratorio Choir will perform a concert of secular vocal music with these New Love Song Waltzes at its center. After a vacation in Garmisch, Edward Elgar became so enthusiastic about Bavarian-Alpine folk music that he created a monument to it with his song cycle From Bavarian Highlands op. 27. Béla Bartók, whose Slovakian Dances will be sung by the choir, was no less enthusiastic about folk music. Even György Ligeti, better known as a composer of so-called contemporary music, arranged many folk melodies that have only recently been gradually published. The sheet music for our concert, in which two pieces will be performed, was also specially produced by the publisher. The program is completed with duets for soprano and alto by Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann, as well as a Hungarian Dance for piano four hands by Johannes Brahms.
