Sidonie au Japon | Madame Sidonie in Japan - Élise Girard | F/CH/DEU/JPN - 2024

Japan, today. Sidonie Perceval (Isabelle Huppert), a celebrated French writer, is still mourning the loss of her late husband. On the occasion of the republication of her first book, she is invited to Japan, where she is received by her local publisher. He takes her to Kyoto, the city of shrines and temples. As the two of them travel together through the Japanese spring blossom, she slowly begins to open up to Kenzo (Tsuyoshi Ihara). But the ghost of her husband Antoine (August Diehl) follows Sidonie. Only when she is finally ready to let him go will she be ready for love again.

"An intoxicating hymn to life." - Elle

"Huppert's trenchant acting, which expresses some of the deepest emotions with a great deal of humor, makes the film even more worth seeing." - Institut Français
