There is no doubt that Boubacar is an icon, a legend in Mali, but simply describing his music as blues does not get to the heart of the matter. His acoustic version of Mali blues is influenced by local cassonké rhythms, Afro-Cuban music & American blues Diamond, unique, amalgam, original, beautiful, passionate, powerful - this is how Boubacar Traoré and his music are often described. It is the authenticity of his gripping voice that unites the banks of the Niger with those of the Mississippi. It is his experiences as a bricklayer and farmer, his struggles as a single father and his grief for his deceased wife that make his songs so incredibly believable. In search of the souls of these songs, Boubacar Traoré travels the world with his band, from stage to stage.
