Modesty and splendor - sacred buildings in the old town (guided tour)

Price: 12.00€

Churches were once much more than just places of worship for the population. They served as important places for community, celebrations, joy and mourning. Stained glass windows and figures also showed biblical stories with an educational mission to those who could not read. Some of these buildings symbolize power through grandeur and magnificence. Others almost hide from modesty - with one mendicant order not really being frugal and eagerly claiming land for expansion. Whereas in the past the separation between different religions was strictly observed, today sacred buildings are a sign of religious freedom and solidarity. The tour also explores the question of why the cathedral was not destroyed during the Second World War - was there really a Freiburg miracle? (No interior tours planned!) - Registration required.
