Encounters with Haugtussa

Book tickets

In 1895, Arne Garborg published his epic poem Haugtussa, which immediately inspired Edvard Grieg. He set some 14 poems to music and considered creating a large stage work from the book. Eventually, 8 of his settings were given their final form as the song cycle Haugtussa, op. 67.

At this Norwegian song recital with narration, you will hear some of Edvard Grieg's most beautiful songs, embedded in the story of Haugtussa and framed by lyrical pieces by the same composer. In addition, some of the poem translations will be heard for the first time, accompanied by marimba and percussion. The whole forms a musical-lyrical narrative that provides insights into this fascinating story and will resonate for a long time to come.
