Conference "Artistic Research in Music" - Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, June 27-28, 2025

This conference explores the multifaceted nature of artistic research and its diverse approaches, linking practice-based methodologies with musicological, theoretical and philosophical discourses. It aims to foster dialogue between artistic practice and academia, and to examine how different perspectives shape and inform each other within the field of artistic research.

The "Collège Glarean" (European Doctoral College for Musical Interpretation and Artistic Research), founded in 2021 by the Freiburg University of Music, the University of Strasbourg and the Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR), is currently the only one of its kind in Europe in the field of musical practice. It trains highly skilled musicians who are mobile and able to apply their research expertise and performance skills anywhere in the world. Our conference will be the first on artistic research in music to be held within the cultural landscape of the Upper Rhine region and aims to establish links with other already established AR centers within and outside the German and French speaking world. Supported by the Franco-German University in connection with the Franco-German Chair of Music Theory / Écriture, the conference will provide a platform for interdisciplinary exchange between researchers and artists.

The event will take place immediately after the biannual doctoral seminar of the Collège Glarean (June 26-27, 2025) in the "Kammermusiksaal" (Chamber Music Hall) of the College of Music Freiburg (June 27) and in the auditorium of the Musicological Seminar of the Albert-Ludwigs-University campus Freiburg (June 28).

The event includes the concert "Music About Music", on 27 June 2025 at 18:15 in the Kammermusiksaal.
