„The Road to Patagonia“ ist eine atemberaubende Surf- und Travel-Doku über den Trip eines Australiers entlang der Westküste der Amerikanischen Kontinente – 50.000 km von Alaska bis an die Südspitze Patagoniens. Zunächst startet Matty Hannon seine unglaubliche Surfari alleine und auf dem Motorrad. Doch tief in der Wildnis – allein mit Wölfen und Bären – scheitern die Pläne des Solo-Travellers unerwartet. Nachdem er alles verloren hat und kurz davor steht, aufzugeben, trifft er Heather, die eine kleine Öko-Farm in Nordkalifornien betreibt. Die beiden verlieben sich und beschließen bald, gemeinsam weiter gen Süden zu reisen – allerdings von nun an per Pferd. Auf ihrem Weg nach Patagonien entdeckt das Paar einsame, perfekte Wellen, erlebt die Höhen und Tiefen des „slow travelns“ und trifft unterwegs auf zapatistische Rebellen und amazonische Schamanen, deren markante Worte die Abenteurer mit existenziellen Fragen zurücklassen.

The Road to Patagonia is a stunning, intimate and unflinching series of love letters within a documentary - firstly, a love between two people, and secondly between humanity and the Earth. Ecologist Matty Hannon begins an incredible solo adventure, to surf the west coast of the Americas by motorbike, from the top of Alaska to the tip of Patagonia. But deep in the wilderness - alone with the wolves and the bears - the journeyer’s plans unexpectedly fall to pieces… Shot over 16 years, the result is an adventurous exposé on the more-than-human-world, offering a physical and spiritual odyssey to better understand our place in Nature.
