Global day of action: Cities for Life
To mark the global day of action Cities for Life - Cities against the Death Penalty, the Kommunale Kino is showing the documentary film "White Torture" and invites you to a discussion afterwards.
Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi is one of the most important human rights defenders in Iran. The regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly imprisoned her for her work. Mohammadi made the documentary film "White Torture" during a break from prison. It is based on interviews with former prisoners who experienced what is known as "white torture": four white walls, no natural light, no sounds and no human contact - a psychological torture method that leaves no visible traces.
The film will be followed by a discussion with Dieter Karg and Mariam Claren about the human rights situation in Iranian prisons and the general situation in Iran. Karg is an Iran expert at Amnesty International and Claren is the German spokesperson for Narges Mohammadi.
The city of Freiburg has been involved in the campaign since 2014. Over 2,500 cities around the world are taking part and expressing their protest against the death penalty. As part of the campaign, well-known and historically significant buildings are illuminated in blue. In Theater Freiburg, the facade of the theater will be illuminated.
