All fake? Historical flights of fancy in Freiburg's urban planning (guided tour)

In collaboration with VISTAtour and ARGE Freiburger Stadtbild - Some of Freiburg's urban planning flights of fancy seem as adventurous as they are audacious. Only a few decades after the Gründerzeit building boom, the city wanted to get rid of the "fashionably over-pasted" cityscape and took steps to "clean up" the facades. In 1941, building director Schlippe found it "beneficial for the image of the German old town" when "entire streets shed their ostentatious garb, the hanging of architectural dummies made of cheap surrogates and the advertising garbage". With the support of historical plans and photographs, the tour shows the locations of particularly spectacular projects and demonstrates what has become of these ideas. - Registration required.
